News»Top Stories» International focus on Tri-State school for STEM program Updated: Tue, Nov 10 2015, 07:19 AM PLEASANT RIDGE, Ohio (Perry Schaible) — Educators from around the world make a stop at Pleasant Ridge Montessori Tuesday.

They’re here to learn about the STEM program, focusing on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Educators use real world, authentic cases. Those cases are presented to students who then have to attempt to come up with a solution over a ten-week period. It’s a way to get students career ready in fields that have been identified as a pathway of the future. The concentration, of course, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. PIE – or the Partnership for Innovation in Education – led by Mary Welsh Schlueter introduce the program to the schools. “Kids can understand that they don’t want to be giving up on geometry, they can’t give up on algebra because that is something that will sustain them for the rest of their lives. We are mathematicians, we are engineers, and we’re scientists every day of our lives,” Welsh said. A big part of this program is technology. Students in grades 9 through 12 are currently working with a local company to assess Brazil’s Readiness to host the 2016 Summer Olympics. They’re using an ‘app’ to help with that.
