PIE and Pleasant Ridge Montessori Welcome Visitors from Eight Countries across the Globe

CINCINNATI – (Nov. 9, 2015) Partnership for Innovation in Education (PIE) will meet with representatives from eight different countries to present its STEM work with local Cincinnati schools as part of a U.S. Department of State International Visitor Leadership Program project called “Science & Technology: Education in the U.S.” The meeting will take place at Pleasant Ridge Montessori School (PRM) on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2015, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. PIE will showcase the state-level grants it has been awarded and the work the organization is doing to develop new STEM curriculum and technology within schools as such as PRM.

Global participants will be attending from Afghanistan, Egypt, Ethiopia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Russia and South Africa. As part of their visit, they will learn about the organization of the U.S. education system and how the U.S. is developing and implementing curricula to improve math and science instruction practices.

Other themes for discussion during the visit will include: state level efforts to support STEM in the classroom, math and science instruction at the primary and secondary school levels and engaging girls and women in STEM. The international visitors will examine best practices in U.S. classroom instruction, including laboratory work and experiential learning activities, discuss policy initiatives and public/private partnerships that accelerate student learning in STEM subjects, particularly for students with diverse backgrounds, and review technological innovation in science education and programs like PIE that promote scientific literacy in the workforce.

“We are honored to be part of such an important global program and to showcase the innovative work we have done with local students. This is an excellent opportunity to promote the great work of Cincinnati teachers and students at the international level and to inspire other nations to bring programs like ours to their classrooms,” said Mary Welsh Schlueter, CEO for PIE.
