Best Buy Foundation Supports Sports Data and Technology Program for Local Teens

CINCINNATI – (Jan. 9, 2020) Cincinnati-based Partnership for Innovation in Education (PIE) recently received $7,000 in grant support from the Best Buy Foundation, part of the Best Buy corporation which supports organizations that demonstrate a track record for building skill proficiency in technology through out-of-school time programs.

The grant helps support PIE’s initial Sports Technology and Data Analytics CaseLAB®Career Credentialing Program with the Cincinnati Major League Soccer team, FC Cincinnati, and the YMCA to engage local teens at Robert A. Taft Information Technology High School in hands-on learning activities featuring STEM subject content and cutting-edge technology.

“We are grateful for the support from Best Buy Foundation for this unique career credentialing program, which helps address the shortage of students graduating with the in-demand skills and qualifications in today’s emerging technology careers,” said Mary Welsh Schlueter, CEO of PIE. “We are excited to launch our first Sports and Technology CaseLAB®Program, allowing students to problem-solve and work alongside athletes, coaches and sports business leaders for optimal game and play health outcomes.”

“PIE’s exceptional immersive-learning programs offer transformational career experiences for students while they are still in the classroom. We are proud to support local organizations like PIE that deliver programs to Cincinnati youth so they can learn beyond traditional classroom experiences and get personalized, experiential learning opportunities that challenge them to solve real-life everyday business problems,” said Bradley Blaylock, Best Buy General Manager (store #154) in Cincinnati.

The support from Best Buy also continues to support existing PIE programs, which include Taft IT High School’s Student Drone Pilot Club with Aerial Videography Program (BLINK), Aiken New Tech High School Technology and Data Analytics Club, Walnut Hills High School Consulting Club, Geek Squad Academy’s Summer in Cincinnati Program, and the Aerial Data Mapping Program with Cincinnati Recreation Commission and the Cincinnati Fire Department.
